End of Life (Death) Doula -The Art of Sacred Transition
A death doula, also known as an end-of-life doula or death midwife, is a trained individual who provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support to souls who are nearing the end of their lives and their families. The role of a death doula is to offer companionship and guidance during the dying process, aiming to create a more peaceful and meaningful experience for the individual and their loved ones. A death doula brings the sacredness to the process of transition allowing the person to feel dignity, grace, and ease as they reflect and release their old stories while awaiting a new adventure.
A death doula’s role may include:
Emotional Support: Offering a compassionate presence and actively listening to the concerns, fears, and thoughts of the dying person. Providing emotional support for family members is also a crucial part of their role.
End-of-Life Planning: Assisting in the development of advance care directives, helping individuals express their preferences for medical treatments, and facilitating conversations about end-of-life wishes.
Legacy Work: Encouraging reflection on life and assisting in activities that help individuals leave a legacy, such as recording memories, writing letters, or creating keepsakes.
Practical Assistance: Providing practical assistance with daily tasks, coordinating care services, and helping to create a comfortable and peaceful environment for the dying person.
Spiritual Support: If requested, offering spiritual guidance or facilitating connections with religious or spiritual leaders, depending on the individual’s beliefs.
Grief Support: Supporting family members and friends through the grieving process before and after the death occurs.
Death doulas work alongside healthcare professionals, hospice teams, and other support services to enhance the overall quality of care for individuals at the end of life. Their aim is to promote a more dignified and personalized approach to death, recognizing it as a natural part of life’s journey.

MEET THE TEAM!
The Death Doula Series is taught by two teachers at the Chacana Spiritual Center. They have been working together since 2024 and through the power within, the Medicine Wheel, and the Path of Fire of Munay Ki and the Mesa lineage of the Q’ero Tribe of Peru. Through meditation, prayer, walking the path of fire through the medicine wheel, and a change of attitude, they became the healing environment for themselves and others.
Robert Martin is a shamanic apprentice at the Chacana Spiritual Center.
Sandy Juarez is a compassionate and dedicated teacher and healer also apprenticing at the Chacana Spiritual Center. She is currently walking the mentorship path to become a Shamanic Andean practitioner. Sandy brings deep reverence, humility and devotion to her spiritual journey and to the people she serves. Sandy is a graduate of Chacana's Death Doula Program and skillfully weaves together advanced end-of-life support practices with her Shamanic wisdom. Her work honors both the mystery of transition and the healing power of presence, helping others navigate grieg, release, transformation and rebirth with grace. With a gift for really seeing people, Sandy meets each person exactly where they are on their path. She believes that everyone learns differently and heals in their own time - and she creates space for that. Her approach is deeply heart-centered:
gentle, grounded, attentive, and rooted in respect. Students and clients appreciate Sandy for her loving and nurturing spirit, ability to listen deeply without judgement, open-mindedness and inclusivity, natural sense of safety and emotional support, intuitive ability to individualize each experience whether working one-on-one or in group settings. Sandy provides a sacred, supportive container where people feel held, heard and empowered to grow. Her devotion to her training, her lineage, and the people she serves continues to shape her into a powerful yet humble guide on the healing path. Sandy's presence is truly a blessing to our community, and we are honored to walk beside her as she continues to unfold into her calling.
